Mercia Learning Alliance was formed by Ofsted Outstanding Teaching School King Ecgbert School in Sheffield. Teaching schools offer Initial Teacher Training; continual professional development courses, leadership and succession development, school to school support, and conduct research into initiatives for improving education.

We are now working closely with various primary and secondary partner schools across Sheffield to raise the standard of education and positive outcomes for children throughout the city, including training the next generation of outstanding teachers.

We value our staff and work hard to offer CPD that supports all to develop the leadership skills that are necessary for a career in education, with bespoke programmes that equip colleagues for promoted posts right up to headship.

Comments from newly qualified teachers:

'When I began my placement, I felt excited to be teaching at a school which is so highly regarded. My immediate concern was how I would 'fit in’? Would I be good enough? However, my fears were soon put to rest by my mentors. Once I realised that I would be supported all the way, I felt completely as ease - just don't be afraid to ask for help!’
• ‘I would advise all beginner teachers to immerse themselves fully within school life; it helps provide you with all the building blocks to enable you to become an outstanding teacher.'
• ‘The experience you will gain from teaching within a real school environment is second-to-none. From the growth in your subject knowledge, the improved management of your time, to the confidence you will gain from speaking to large groups and challenging individuals, all aspects of this experience will assist you in not only becoming a better teacher, but a more rounded individual.’
