Expansion Consultation
King Ecgbert School, working in partnership with the Sheffield Local Authority, is proposing to permanently expand the mainstream Y7 Pupil Admission Number (PAN) from 193 to 240, and the Integrated Resource (Autism) Year 7 PAN from 4 to 6, and its overall capacity from 20 to 30 pupils, from September 2023.
To accommodate additional pupils, we wish to construct a new building on the current site specifically for the sixth form.
Consultation on the PAN change begins on Monday 9th May and ends on Monday 13th June 2022 at noon.

Under the new arrangements we do not expect to go over PAN as in previous years, instead the PAN and the reality will be matched more closely.
Will the look and feel of the school change?
We intend to accommodate Key stage 3 and 4 pupils (Years 7-11) in the main school building. The sixth form will be accommodated in a separate new sixth form centre. The original building was designed to accommodate 1224 pupils. Given that it currently has close to 1400 pupils the reduction in pupil numbers will ease circulation pressure on corridors and improve pupil and staff experience. We intend the new sixth form base to develop further the ethos and experience for our older pupils.
Where is the planning permission and planning consultation?
The Local Authority is responsible for all planning matters. Full designs and specifications for the project will be shared by Sheffield City Council via their Planning Portal and people will be able to respond separately and formally as required. You can find this here.
How will it be paid for?
All capital costs for the new building will be funded by the Local Authority via DFE capital grants linked to school growth.
