World Class Schools

King Ecgbert School is very proud to be classed as a World Class School, awarded by the World Class Schools Quality Mark.

First accredited in 2017, and most recently re-accredited in 2021 and 2023, our highlight has been hosting the World Class Schools annual Symposium event in 2019, and in that year being named World Class School of the Year.

The quality mark really does acknowledge the work our fantastic students do. It is given to non-selective state-funded schools in the UK, and the assessment is based on the students, not the school, across a range of frameworks of skills and competencies.

World Class Schools explains:

Many of the best schools in England have moved beyond their Ofsted judgement. They have developed students’ skills, competencies, character and personal qualities to such an extent that their students rival those from the best schools internationally. Ofsted measures what the school does to develop the students. The World Class Schools Quality Mark goes one step further and assesses whether this has worked. Schools that become part of the World Class network are exceptional in that their students are World Class wherever you put them.
